Building a software development organisation

As fractional CTO at Nuno, Michiel van Beers built an agentic harness and automated tests, taking releases from every other month to weekly.

Problem

A growing company needed a software organisation that could deliver reliably and talk the language of the business. Releases happened about once every other month.

Approach

  • An agentic harness. I set up a full agentic harness, so the team can work with AI coding agents in a structured way.
  • Automated tests. I introduced an automated test suite, so every change is checked before it ships.
  • Ways of working. Team structure, ways of working and a roadmap that engineering and the business own together.

Result

  • The release cadence went from once every other month to weekly.
  • A development organisation that ships predictably and plans with the business, not around it.
